The TCP/IP Inspectors; Profile, Data and Resolver are part of the Tune-Up family of products that includes an optional batch monitor and inspectors for JES2, JES3, and VTAM. All inspectors are current with subsystem releases through z/OS V1R3. The TCP/IP Profile Inspector is yours at 'No Charge', our way of saying thanks for your interest in NewEra and our products. The other Inspectors are made available at 'No Charge' for the limited evaluation period of 90 days. The Tune-Up Application Manager and the TCP/IP Inspectors are to be found in the Tune-Up download file tuneup.exe while the JES2, JES3 and VTAM Inspectors are found in option.exe. As you enter Tune-Up for the first time, you will be directed to the Tune-Up Product Use License. Please review this carefully as it is your key to con- tinued Tune-Up use. For more information about NewEra Software, Inc. and our products: <> IMAGE Focus - The standard for Sysplex/Image configuration management; <> SAE - The only stand alone product you will ever need; Visit our informational web site - http://www.newera.com. 2-What is Tune-Up and what does it do for you? Tune-Up is a collection of subsystem configuration management tools that allows you to inspect and debug subsystem configuration syntax and then monitors these configuration datasets and files for problems and/or changes. At each monitored interval and based on individual monitor settings, notificat- ions of monitor results are sent via TSO broadcast or email to individuals, the master console or automated operator. Tune-Up incorporates the fully functional Subsystem Inspectors found in our product IMAGE Focus. Both IMAGE Focus and Tune-Up parse and inspect the con- figuration syntax used to configure and start the JES2, JES3, VTAM and TCP/IP address spaces. As you will learn, this syntax checking is quite extensive and current to the latest releases of z/OS. Tune-Up and IMAGE Focus vary only in that IMAGE Focus will automatically deter- mine the name and location of the various subsystem configuration datasets used to configure a named Sysplex/Image. In doing this, IMAGE Focus follows the same search order process used by z/OS. In Tune-Up, you must provide the name and location. Tune-Up can do a few things that IMAGE Focus currently does not do. First, Tune-Up can be used to edit your source configuration statements and allows you to enter a debugging cycle. Once in this cycle, you Edit-Inspect-Edit-Inspect a working file until you are satisfied with your results and exit the cycle. Second, Tune-Up can do "Spot Inspections". This allows you to call for the Inspect- ion of a named statement only. This can be a great help when you are adding to or changing a configuration. Third, Tune-Up offers a collection of syntax templates that you can use to improve your understanding of specific configuration syntax. Currently only limited support for this feature is available with the TCP/IP Profile Inspector as we are awaiting user feedback on this unique functionality. How to get a Tune-Up: Tune-Up and its components are available only as a download from the NewEra Web Site www.newera.com. The TCP/IP Profile Inspector is available on a 'No Charge' basis. It is our way of saying 'Thanks for your interest and support of NewEra Software and our products'. 3-Transferring the TCP/IP Applications to your Host: The TCP/IP Applications and their components are available as downloads only. Once you have selected and downloaded the tuneup.exe file to your desktop, you must Self-Extract it and move the INSTALL component and optionally the LOADLIB component to your HOST system for execution. Normally the transfer of INSTALL and LOADLIB to your MVS system is done using a TSO File Transfer program. This file transfer is done in BINARY not ASCII/EBCDIC format. Before you attempt to move INSTALL to your HOST, you will want to pre-alloc- ate a destination dataset with the correct DCB attributes. a) Pre-allocating the destination dataset on your Host: On the HOST system, the destination dataset must be: RECFM=FB, LRECL=80, BLKSIZE=27920. The dataset will require about 10 CYL on a 3390. b) Tranfer the INSTALL file to your MVS system: Normally the transfer of INSTALL to your MVS system is done using a TSO File Transfer program. When transferring the file to MVS specify BINARY. An example of the Allocate Screen you will use is shown below: +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Allocate New Data Set Command ===> Data Set Name . . . : prefix.INSTALL Management class . . . If you encounter problems during the file download, you should email NewEra Technical Support at: support@newera.com c) The INSTALL job will create a Partitioned DATASET, Prefix.TUNEUP. Now that you have the file INSTALL on your HOST, modify the JOB card, and the PROC statement with your installation specific information. ***************************** Top of Data ****************************** //INSTALL JOB 1, <===== MODIFY // CLASS=A, <===== MODIFY // MSGCLASS=A <===== MODIFY //****************************************************************** //* TUNEUP - NAME OF TUNEUP INSTALL LIBRARY * //* DSKUNIT - UNIT NAME FOR TUNEUP DATASET * //* DSKVOLU - VOLUME SERIAL NUMBER FOR TUNEUP DATASET * //****************************************************************** //UPDAT PROC TUNEUP='prefix.TUNEUP', <== CHANGE prefix // DSKUNIT=3390, <== CHANGE DISK UNIT // DSKVOLU=????? <== CHANGE VOL SER //********************* CREATE THE TUNEUP PDS ********************** Where TUNEUP ='prefix.TUNEUP' is your TSO prefix.TUNEUP. Where DSKVOLU =????? is the volume serial number of the DASD. Please note that Tune-Up will test for your SYSUID (TSO Prefix) and force it as the high-level qualifier to the PDS you select. So when you are all done, the fully qualified name of the application that we are looking for will look like this: prefix.tuneup(TUNEUPEX) d) If for some reason you did not use TUNEUP and the name of the PDS If you specify a PDS name other than TUNEUP, you will need to make a small modification to the Tune-Up install file INSTALL. To do this, open the file in EDIT. Beginning on approximately line 33 of the INSTALL file, you will find the following configuration header: /**********************************************************************/ /* TUNE-UP CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS YOU MAY WANT TO MODIFY */ /**********************************************************************/ PASSWORD = 'NEWERA' /* <== CHANGE VALUE IS OPTIONAL */ PANELS = 'TUNEUP' /* <== CHANGE VALUE IS OPTIONAL */ TUNEUP_LOADLIB = 'TUNEUP' /* <== CHANGE VALUE IS OPTIONAL */ /**********************************************************************/ Note the variable PANELS has the value 'TUNEUP'. If necessary, change this to the name of the partitioned dataset you are using. Be certain to follow the convention PANELS = 'yourpds'. You will know if you get it right when you execute the application and it comes up in Full Screen Mode. If you get it wrong, it will come up in line mode. e) Submitting the INSTALL JOB will create a Partitioned DATASET named Prefix.TUNEUP. Now you are ready to submit the INSTALL JOB. Using ISPF option 3.4 specify the file 'INSTALL', then type 'sub' to submit for execution. An example of the submit is shown below. sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss DSLIST - Data Sets Matching sysuid.INSTALL Row 1 of 1 Command ===> Scroll ===> PAGE Command - Enter "/" to select action Message Volume --------------------------------------------------------------------------- sub Prefix.INSTALL OS39M1 ***************************** End of Data Set list ************************ f) If you have installed before If you have installed Tune-Up before, you will need to DELETE the TUNEUP PDS before you attempt a new install. This will have no effect on your cur- rent monitors or their settings. After the JOB has finished, you should verify that the TUNEUP PDS does, in fact, exist. If it does, you're ready to run Tune-Up. If you encounter problems during the file download, you should email NewEra Technical Support at: support@newera.com 4-Transferring the Optional Inspectors for JES2 JES3 and VTAM to your Host: Once you have selected and download option.exe you must Self-Extract it and move LOADLIB component to your HOST system for execution. Normally the transfer of LOADLIB to your MVS system is done using a TSO File Transfer program. This file transfer is done in BINARY not ASCII/EBCDIC format. Before you attempt to move LOADLIB to your HOST, you will want to pre-allocate a destination dataset with the correct DCB attributes. a) Pre-allocating the destination dataset on your Host: On the HOST system, the destination dataset must be: RECFM=FB, LRECL=80, BLKSIZE=27920. If you encounter problems during the file download, you should email NewEra Technical Support at: support@newera.com c) The LOADLIB job will create a Partitioned DATASET, Prefix.TUNEUP.LOAD. Now that you have the file LOADLIB on your HOST, modify the JOB card, and the PROC statement with your installation specific information. ***************************** Top of Data ************************** //LOADLIB JOB 1,'INSTALL TUNEUP', <===== MODIFY // CLASS=A, <===== MODIFY // MSGCLASS=A <===== MODIFY //******************************************************************* //* * //* JOB: INSTALL FUNCTION: INSTALL FROM INLINE DATA * //* * //* * //* STEP:LKED LINK EDITS THE LOAD PROGRAM * //* STEP:LOAD VERIFIES JOBSTREAM * //* STEP:IEBUPDTE CREATES THE TEMPLIB USING IEBUPDTE * //* * //******************************************************************* //* //* * //* TUNPRFX - PREFIX FOR TUNEUP DATASETS * //* DSKUNIT - UNIT NAME FOR TUNEUP DATASETS * //* DSKVOLU - VOLUME SERIAL NUMBER FOR TUNEUP DATASETS * //* //* //INSTALL PROC TUNPRFX='PREFIX.TUNEUP', <===== MODIFY PREFIX // DSKUNIT=3390, <===== MODIFY DISK UNIT // DSKVOLU=????? <===== MODIFY VOL SERIAL //******************** LINK THE BUILD PROGRAM ********************** Where TUNEUP ='prefix.TUNEUP' is your TSO prefix.TUNEUP. Press ENTER to display and you will display your very first Inspection Report. Changing this value will point Tune-Up to another(and for certain, more appropriate) source dataset for inspect- ion. To do this, over type the value. Sample datasets also exist for the other inspectors so you should try them out and get a feel for Tune-up before you begin to inspect your actual con- figuration files. 5-Product Documentation, Panel Help and Field Help: a) Product Documentation: Tune-Up Product Documentation can be found in the tune_up.doc and tune_up.pdf files that were exposed as you self-extracted the download.
