IMAGE Focus 4.6 is the foundation upon which all future releases of IMAGE Focus will be based. All Users are encouraged to migrate to 4.6 as soon as possible to take advantage of currently available and planned enhancements. Specifically, users will find the following in IFO 4.6:

User Interface:

The User Interface has been streamlined by grouping product functions into operational "VIEWS".

Production View

The Production View support functions that are used to enable the interval monitoring of an IMAGE Focus-managed Sysplex or Image. Once active, this critical monitoring function will call the IMAGE Focus Inspection Server as needed to perform a Sysplex-wide validation of the current configuration components that define a running production environment. As directed by optional settings, Packages are updated and "Need to Know" notices sent.

Workbench View

The Workbench View will assist in the analysis of each Image Component by providing Operating System and Subsystem Inspection, New Release and Configuration Change Management Tools. Each of these tools will generate Inspection or Change Reports that focus attention on changes to critical configuration components and/or their integrity.

Recovery View

The Recovery View gives you access to critical system resources when JES, VTAM, RACF, TCP/IP and/or TSO are not available. In addition, the proven NoTSO Environment and IFOR (IFO Recovery) ensure that you retain access to IMAGE Focus for problem analysis, repair and recovery under these adverse conditions.

Evaluation Use:

All prospective users evaluating IMAGE Focus for acquisition will now be provided with a Temporary Authorization when requested from NewEra Technical Support.

IFOR Recovery:

A new application IFOR has been added to specifically support Stand Alone or Recovery use.

Documentation:

Product documentation has been revised to support the various interface and functional changes. This includes a separate document "IMAGE Focus Messages" that details, to the extent possible, the content and meaning of each message.

Status Monitors:

In support of the need for continual operation of the IMAGE Focus Background Task, IFOBG, and Recovery Task, IFOR, the following new functions have been added:

Background Task

It is strongly recommended that the IMAGE Focus Background (IFOBG) be run on a continual basis. In order to provide assurance as to the integrity of IFOBG and its various required settings, the Background Status Monitor has been added. In addition, the operational status of IFOBG is displayed each time the IMAGE Focus Main Menu is accessed.

IFOR Recovery

It is strongly recommended that the IMAGE Focus Recovery application IFOR be started with each IPL and be made continually available to assist in the event of a subsystem failure. In support of this, the operational status of IFOR is displayed each time the IMAGE Focus Main Menu is accessed.
