Real World
Problems
OS/390
systems are highly reliable and system failures are infrequent.
However, because of this, when a production system does fail or an
image fails to IPL, you need access to tools that are well understood
and easy to use.
As close to ISPF as you
can get without MVS and its Sub-Systems
Because of the nature of problems that cause system outages, SAE and its Action Services are designed to specifically assist those charged with the responsibility for repairing and restarting failed systems. The Action Services interface and related screens
are specifically designed to fit the needs of an experienced ISPF user. The interface and panels are considered intuitive and usable with a minimum of instruction and/or training for those
who have mastered ISPF.
How you use Action Services
This application provides users with complete access to all DASD Devices and Datasets. The primary interface
includes Unit, Volume or Dataset Selection Screens (list). From these Screens, users access Support Screens for detailed Volume and Dataset Information or locate critical Catalogs, Datasets and Members for further refinement of their selections or for Dataset Processing. Datasets selected for processing are analyzed for their organization, file types and data content so that the needed Processing Screen is displayed without a further request. Processing possibilities includes EDIT, ZAP, and ALTERCAT. These Processing Screens, the Selection Screens and the Support Screens are used in conjunction with SAE COMMANDS to analyze, access and fix problems that may be causing a system outage.
How other SAE Applications use
these services
Because of the power of Action Services, other SAE Applications will often make use of that power as well. A good example
is Image Services. Images Services isolates the causes of failed MVS IPLs by analyzing
and/or comparing the content of the volumes, datasets and parameters used in a real
IPL for errors or against an image standard . If errors or
differences are found, the Image Services will assemble the needed Action Services
for makeing repairs.
