The Sysplex Inspector:
A Sysplex is a collection of, from two to thirty-two, System Images that have been configured to cooperate in providing information. Conflicts in the configuration parameters that define the relation of each System Image to the Sysplex may result in operational failures within the Sysplex but not necessarily within the individual Images. The purpose of the IMAGE Focus Sysplex Inspector is to inspect the major parameters that define the existing or planned Sysplex Relationships of each System Image, Validate their eligibility for inclusion in the Sysplex and Cross Check each for conflicts that would result in Sysplex failure.
The Subsystem Inspector:
The Images in a Sysplex are created from the parameters that define the configurations of an Operating System and its related Subsystems; JES2, JES3, VTAM and TCPIP. In both Sysplex and Image Inspection, the inspection of one or all of the subsystems can be optionally requested. When such a “Full Inspection” is run, the location of the start-up files and symbolic values needed by the subsystem is automatically determined during the OPSYS Inspection. While this processing methodology simplifies the knowledge need to run a “Full Inspection”, it does not address the organizational issues of different technical groups supporting different elements of the Image nor does it address the Unit Testing requirements these groups may have. The Subsystem Inspector is designed to allow those with a need to access only (for example) VTAM to define and test only VTAM with no concern for the operations of (for example) JES2 or
JES3 or TCPIP.
The Dynamic Change Inspector:
It is quite common for a System Image to be IPLed and
then modified by operator or program action. These
modifications can have a dramatic long-term effect on
reIPLability. Consider that if new authorized programs could
be added manually to the APFLST but omitted from the
underlying member. If the system is them reIPLed these new
programs unavailable. The Dynamic Change Inspector compares the content of
a System Image against the current values of LNKLST, APFLST and LPALST. Results of
this inspection and comparison pinpoint these dynamic
changes.
The JES3 Inspector:
The JES3 Inspector is used to inspect the parameters that start the JES3 subsystem. The inspection is performed on the JES3 parameters that would be used as determined by the OPSYS Inspector. The Inspection involves syntax checking of all parameters and additional inspection processing that identify:
· Syntax coding errors and
· Definition errors in JES3 parameters.
Problems identified would generally prevent the next start of JES3. Users should correct identified problems as they may turn into JES3 initialization errors.
The JES3
Inspector, like the JES2 and VTAM Subsystem Inspectors is an
optional component of IMAGE Focus.
